♟️ Join Our Coaching Team
Precision Chess Academy is growing. We run private lessons, small-group classes and weekly chess programmes in schools across Auckland, plus online coaching. We’re always interested in hearing from strong players who enjoy teaching.
What the work involves
✔ Coaching students under 18 — in schools, small groups, and one-to-one
✔ Sessions during school terms: before school, lunchtimes, after school, plus evenings and weekends for private students
✔ A structured curriculum and training material are provided — you won’t be building lessons from scratch
✔ Online coaching is available too, so you don’t have to be in Auckland for every role
What we’re looking for
✔ A strong playing background — a FIDE rating, or an active record on a major online platform
✔ Willingness to complete a New Zealand Police vetting check — required before working with our students
✔ Previous coaching or teaching experience preferred, but not required
✔ Patience with beginners and confidence holding the attention of a room of children
✔ Auckland-based for in-person work; anywhere for online
What we offer
✔ A structured programme and ready-made training material
✔ Support from an International Master-led coaching team
✔ Hours that flex around your own commitments

Where you would be coaching
Our in-person coaching runs across Auckland — in schools, in small group classes, and in students’ homes. Online coaching can be done from anywhere, so you don’t need to be in Auckland to coach with us.
Common questions
Do I need a FIDE rating?
No. A FIDE rating is welcome, but an active record on Lichess or Chess.com is equally fine — what matters is that your playing strength is well clear of the students you’ll be teaching.
Do I need coaching experience?
It helps, but it isn’t required. We provide the curriculum, lesson structure and training material, and you’ll have support from the rest of the coaching team.
What is Police vetting, and do I have to do it?
It’s a background check run by New Zealand Police. Every coach working with our students completes one before they start. If you haven’t been vetted before, we’ll walk you through it.
Can I coach online only?
Yes. Some of our coaching is delivered entirely online, so you can work with us from outside Auckland or outside New Zealand.
How many hours would I be coaching?
It’s flexible. Some coaches take a single school session a week; others coach most days across schools, groups and private students.
We usually respond within 24 hours.
